Severe heat wave grips Jammu, temp rises in Srinagar

JAMMU, June 16: With the constant rise in temperature, the City of Temples (Jammu) has come under the grip of severe heat wave, while Srinagar too has recorded sharp rise in day temperature.
A MeT spokesman said that Jammu today recorded a day temperature of 43.7 degrees Celsius as compared to yesterday’s temperature of 43.0 deg C. The day temperature in Jammu on Sunday was nearly 5.3 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature, however, remained 26.8 deg C in Jammu today.
Srinagar City recorded a maximum temperature of 32.2 degrees C today which was 3.8 degrees above normal, as compared to yesterday’s temperature of 30.0 deg C. The minimum temperature, however, remained 14 degrees C in the summer capital on Sunday.
MeT said the highest temperature of 45.8 degrees C was recorded at Hamirpur (PoJK) on Sunday and 42 degree C at Muzaffarabad (PoJK).
Holy town of Katra Mata Vaishnodevi recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees C and minimum 25.0 deg C. The day temperature remained 5.2 deg above normal temperature for the place on this day of the season.
Bhaderwah tourist spot of Jammu region recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6 deg C and minimum 15.0 degrees, Batote town maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees and minimum 17.8 while highway town of Banihal a day temperature of 33.3 degrees and night temperature of 14.2 degrees C on Sunday.
Famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in Kashmir today recorded a maximum temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius and minimum 11.2 degrees; Pahalgam tourist resort in Kashmir a day temperature of 28.5 degrees C and night temperature of 8.0 deg C.
Qazigund, a highway town of South Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 32.6 deg C on Sunday, which is 5.6 deg C above normal for the place on this day, however, the minimum temperature at Qazigund remained 12 deg C today.
Frontier town of Kupwara recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4 deg C and minimum 12.3 deg while Kokernag a day temperature of 30.7 deg C and night temperature of 14.7 degrees C on Sunday.
The MeT office has not predicted major change in the weather across J&K during next two days.
