SRINAGAR, Oct 3: In a significant initiative aimed at supporting individuals with disabilities, Humanity Welfare Organization (HWO) Helpline, a registered NGO advocating for the empowerment and rehabilitation of people with disabilities, organized a wheelchair distribution program at the Higher Secondary School for Boys in Bijbehara, district Anantnag. The event was inaugurated by Dr Syed Fakhruddin Hamid, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Anantnag.
The program, supported by Muslim Aid Australia, saw the distribution of high-quality wheelchairs to 100 children and youth with mobility challenges from the districts of Anantnag and Kulgam. Recipients were provided with wheelchairs on the spot after presenting their disability certificates and Aadhaar cards.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said, “The organization has been working tirelessly on a mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. They have also played a crucial role in assisting the Government with policy formulation for the inclusion of persons with disabilities. We, as the district administration, are proud to have such a credible NGO in our district, providing services not only in Anantnag but across Jammu and Kashmir.”
Javed Ahmad Tak, the founder and chairman of Humanity Welfare Organization Helpline, highlighted the organization’s long-term goal of fully empowering the disability sector in J&K. “This wheelchair distribution initiative, in collaboration with Muslim Aid Australia, is just one of many steps toward ensuring that every person in need of a wheelchair gets one with minimal documentation and procedures. By the end of 2025, we aim to ensure that no one in need is left without a quality, portable wheelchair,” he stated.
Adil Rashid Vaid, the chief functionary of the organization, extended the vote of thanks. The event marks a significant step in the ongoing mission to uplift and empower individuals with disabilities in the region.
