SHTM students win 1st prize in National Tourism Entrepreneurship Competition

JAMMU, Oct 21: A team from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) at the University of Jammu, comprised of MBA (TTM) 3rd semester students Bhavna Gupta, Tanishka Singh Kotwal and Arinut Sharma, clinched the first prize at the ‘Venture Voice – Tourism Entrepreneurship Development’ competition held at Chandigarh University. The event attracted 93 teams from across the country.
Prof. Alka Sharma, Director of SIIEDC and Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, appreciated the students for their initiative and urged them to leverage business opportunities to become successful entrepreneurs. Prof. Anil Gupta, Director of SHTM, highlighted the department’s commitment to promoting entrepreneurship, noting that many alumni have emerged as first-generation entrepreneurs.
The winning team presented “Duggar Darshan,” a business proposal focused on empowering local women and promoting sustainable practices, local culture, cuisine, and art. Their innovative approach garnered high praise from judges and organizers, earning them a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
The team was mentored by Dr. Suvidha Khanna and faculty members, including Dr. Poonam Sharma and Dr. Nikita Dogra. Additionally, MBA student Mehak Choudhary was recognized for her achievements in fencing, securing Gold and Silver at an intercollegiate tournament.
