SAMBA, Feb 11: A 55-year-old man apparently ended his life by consuming some unknown poisonous substance at his residence here.
Sat Pal son of Jagan Nath resident of Samba consumed some poisonous substance at his residence, a police official said.
He was immediately taken to District Hospital Samba, where after preliminary treatment, he was referred to Government Medical College Jammu, where the team of doctors declared him as dead on arrival, he said.
Police have shifted the body of the deceased to the mortuary of the Government Medical College Jammu for conducting the post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, inquest proceedings under BNSS 194 have been initiated to ascertain the reasons as to why he took such an extreme step to end his life.
