10th J&K UT Handball C’ship begins

JAMMU, Feb 21: Three day long 10th J&K UT Handball Championship began here today for senior men and women sections.
The championship is being organized by J&K Handball Association (JKHA) in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council.
Arun Manhas, Director Industries and Commerce Jammu was chief guest in the opening ceremony while Bajinder Pal Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu was guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest stressed upon the players to concentrate on honing their skills and maintaining high physical standards to achieve big.
Around 300 players from the different districts of the UT are participating in the tournament.
Earlier, the organizing secretary of the championship, Ashwani Kumar Raina welcomed the guests, players, officials, spectators and others.
The first match in men’s section was played between District Poonch and District Baramulla in which Baramulla won by 16-15 goals.
The 2nd match in men’s section was played between District Jammu & District Udhampur in which District Jammu defeated Udhampur by 27-22 goals.
Third match in men’s section was played between District Budgam and District Ramban in which Budgam defeated Ramban by 9-5 goals.
In another match of women’s section, District Barmulla defeated Bandipora by 7-3 goals.
Among others who were present on the occasion were Ashwani Kumar Raina, president JKHA, Rajesh Chandan, general secretary, Sanjeev Jamwal, treasurer and Rajesh Kapoor, vice president.
