Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Mar 10: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) made an appeal to the Union Home Minister, to extend timeline for the PM Relief package scheme of Rs 5.5 lakhs upto ending March 2026 taking into consideration the failure of UT Govt. to issue speaking order well in time in view of the directions passed by High Court of JKL in a PIL filed by JKSAC and non-payment of relief package of Rs 5.5 lakhs to over 4,000 families from the last 2 years despite the fact that their cases have been processed by UT Govt. to MHA for payment of the relief.
Addressing the meeting of the executive members of it’s unit Sub-district RS Pura, Gurdev Singh its president apprised the members that the relief package of Rs 5.5. was sanctioned by Govt for 36,384 DPs families of all the categories i.e. 26,319 families of PoJK and 10,065 of 1965 and 1971 of Chhamb DPs. Out of the said figure of 26,319 relief payment has been disbursed to approximately 18,000 families and cases of over 4,000 families have been processed by UT Govt to MHA and pending for payment of relief for the last 2 years.
Singh further said that another over 4,000 families of 1947 have not been considered for payment of relief for want of mandatory records listed under order no. 22-JK(DMRRR) dated 27-03-2017 is either dilapidated torn or missing in their case. JKSAC approached the government since the commencement of the scheme that the records of DPs of 1947 is not in proper order and their supplementary documents/optional which are sufficient to prove their identity be also considered as mandatory but the govt. unfortunately paid no response.
During 2020 the DPs of 1965 and 1971 facing the same problem approached the govt. to amend the order No. 22-JK(DMRRR) dated 27-03-2017 to list their supplementary/ optional records as mandatory. The govt. made an amendment and issued an order no. 20-JK(DMRRR) dated 10-02-2020 where under DPs of 1965 and 1971 were allowed their supplementary/optional records as additional set of mandatory documents to avail the relief benefit but in case of DPs of 1947 no such concessions were made.
He further said that the matter was immediately taken up with Lt. Governor and other higher authorities. The JKSAC then moved to High Court. The Court issued order on March 7, 2025 in DPs favour.
Singh said they have urged the CM, LG and the Union Home Minister to extend date up to ending March 2026 under the given circumstances keeping in view that the benefit of scheme could reach to the last DP family.
