Akhnoor: To Celebrate Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, Department of Chemistry, GDC Akhnoor on Friday organised an online seminar on the topic “Chemistry fighting Covid-19”.
The event was organized under the able guidance of Principal, GDC Akhnoor, Dr.Namarta. The event was organized by Dr. Anil Kumar, Senior Assistant Professor (Convener) and Dr.Sanjay Kapoor Assistant Professor (Organizing Secretary) of Department of Chemistry. In the very outset, Dr.Namarta, Principal of the college gave her welcome speech and introductory remarks about the event. The Resource Person for the seminar was Dr. Revika Arora, Senior Assistant Professor of Department of Chemistry, GCW Gandhinagar, Jammu. While Participating in the seminar meet, Dr.Revika highlighted the role of chemistry in dealing with covid-19 pandemic. She said that chemistry is involved everywhere. To fight against covid-19 pandemic , chemistry has played a vital role. In dealing with Disinfectants, masks, sanitizers, soaps, laboratory tests, vaccination and equipments everywhere chemistry is involved. She said that presentations delivered by various participants was also wonderful. The topic chosen by the organizers was also related to the recent conditions.
In the seminar, the faculty members and many chemistry students of the college attended the Session. The virtual Session was followed by presentations of the students where they shared their views and thoughts also . The Session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, GDC Akhnoor. Mr. Himanshu Sharma of Sem -5th succeeded to clinch the first prize whereas the second and third prize was bagged by Ms. Mannat Sharma and Ms. Priya Sharma of Sem-5th of the college. Dr. Namarta, Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the Department of Chemistry and motivated the students and department to organize more such events in future for creating awareness amongst youth through the digital platform during the Covid-19 pandemic period.
