JAMMU: Expressing grave concern on deteriorated condition of Red Cross Sarai located at Resham Ghar Chowk Jammu, Dr Rajinder Thappa, a leader of Aam Aadmi Party urged the LG to intervene into the matter for improving condition of the facility at the earliest besides changing the Honorary Secretary of Red Cross Society, Jammu.
In a press statement issued here after visiting the Sarai, Dr Thappa said that the facility was built to provide necessary support and accommodation facility to attendants of patients, belonging to far off areas, whose loved-ones are under-treatment at GMC Jammu or other hospitals, but it is really a matter of concern that the facility is not meeting the objective, for which it was constructed, due to callous attitude to Red Cross authorities. Highlighting the miserable state of Sahai, Dr Rajinder Thappa said that attendants were forced to live in unhygienic conditions in Sarai as there is no cleanliness. “Walls and others areas are dirty, fans are lying defunct, bed-sheets are damaged and lift is not operational for last more than one & half year. The condition of bathrooms is so pathetic that it has become a source of spreading infections,” he asserted. Dr Thappa further said that attendants and patients, residing in Sarai, are being served only once in 24 hours and even the quality of food is not upto the mark, thereby causing a number of hardships to poor people. The 2nd and 3rd floors are being used as stores by the Government Medical College administration causing shortage in accommodation for patients and attendants, further adding to woes of suffering people, as the people who reside in Sarai are mostly from poor sections of society and not able to afford costly accommodations in Hotels or lodges for their stay. Looking at the present condition of the Sarai, Dr Thappa urged LG to direct concerned authorities for changing the Honorary Secretary of Red Cross Society, Jammu, as he has failed to perform his duties efficiently.
He further requested for initiating necessary measures to improve the condition of the facility at the earliest, for the overall welfare of patients and their attendants, especially from remote and far-off areas of Jammu.
