Dogri Sanstha Jammu hails Govt’s decision to rename college after Padma Sachdev

JAMMU: Dogri Sanstha Jammu has very warmly and enthusiastically received the news that has appeared in a section of media that Government Degree college for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu will be named after the eminent Dogri poet and writer Padmashri Padma Sachdev. The president of Dogri Sanstha, Prof. Lalit Magotra, in a specially convened meeting of the Sanstha, while expressing his joy over the news, said that Padma Sachdev is an icon of Dogri literature and has made outstanding contribution towards the development, promotion and popularization of Dogri literature, not only in the region, but all over India and the world.
He also said that she has been a path breaker throughout her life and her being the first female poet of Dogri at the tender age of 15-16 is a testimony to this fact. The other office bearers of the Sanstha remembered her contribution, especially, in getting Dogri songs sung by legendry Lata Mangeshkar, which is prominent milestone in popularizing Dogri poetry and Dogri literature.
Great appreciation was expressed for the efforts which Padma Sachdev made by translating Dogri works into Hindi and other languages. She was always considered an ambassador of Dogri wherever she visited.
Office bearers of Sanstha, on behalf of all members, expressed their thanks and gratitude to the government for giving appropriate and befitting recognition to a Dogri icon which is a matter of pride for Dogri writers in particular and Dogras in general.
