JAMMU, Sept 9: Three Army personnel attained martyrdom as an avalanche struck Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world, located in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Army confirmed martyrdom of three personnel at Siachen Glacier in the line of duty this evening.

The martyrs have been identified as Sepoy Mohit Kumar of Auraiya, UP and Agniveers Niraj Kumar Choudhary R/o Deogarh Jharkhant and Dabhi Rakesh Devabhai of Junagarh Gujarat.
Reports said the avalanche struck Siachen base camp area, located at the height of 12,000 feet from the sea level in which three Army soldiers, two of them Agniveers, were trapped.
A rescue operation was immediately launched and bodies of all three trapped soldiers were retrieved.
There were reports that an Army Captain had narrow escape in the avalanche.
The soldiers belonged to Mahar regiment and hailed from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
They died after being trapped for five hours while the Army captain was rescued.
