SAMBA, Sept 12: In the aftermath of unprecedented rainfall and devastating floods, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, led an extensive field mission to Samba district today, personally supervising the massive relief and rehabilitation operations on ground.
The Minister was accompanied by elected representatives including Surjit Singh Slathia, MLA Samba, and Vikram Randhawa, MLA Bahu, along with Deputy Commissioner Samba, Ayushi Sudan and Senior Superintendent of Police, Virender Singh Manhas.
During her visit, Minister Bambhaniya conducted a detailed review of the extensive damage caused by the floods, which has resulted in large-scale infrastructure destruction, severe agricultural losses, and the displacement of families. She inspected critical landslide zones, emergency evacuation points, and disrupted connectivity corridors, ensuring real-time ground-level intelligence was transmitted directly to the Prime Minister’s crisis monitoring center.
She also engaged directly with flood-affected families, listening to their grievances and assuring them of immediate relief.
A significant highlight of her address was the role of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which has deployed specialized survey teams to conduct in-depth and scientific damage assessments across the affected areas. This exercise will ensure precise evaluation of losses and fair compensation to all victims. The Minister further mentioned the visit of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to Jammu & Kashmir to personally review the situation, and his interaction with affected communities was a testament to the Government’s meticulous monitoring of the ground realities.
The Central Government has also initiated a two-pronged strategy: immediate humanitarian relief to meet urgent needs, and long-term climate-resilient reconstruction measures to prepare for the future. These include rebuilding infrastructure capable of withstanding extreme weather, introducing advanced early-warning systems, and implementing livelihood restoration programmes for affected communities.
