Indian, US officials hold talks, decide to intensify efforts for early conclusion of Trade Agreement

NEW DELHI, Sep 16 : India and US officials held discussions here today and decided to intensify efforts to achieve early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement.

A team of US officials led by Chief Negotiator, India US Bilateral Trade Agreement negotiations, Brendan Lynch,  held discussions with officials from Department of Commerce, led by Special Secretary, Department of Commerce, on India-US trade ties including on the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement, an official spokesman said.

”The discussions were positive and forward looking covering various aspects of the trade deal. It was decided to intensify efforts to achieve early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement,” the spokesman added.

Acknowledging the enduring importance of bilateral trade between India and the U.S. the discussions were positive and forward looking covering various aspects of the trade deal, the spokesman added.

Mr Lynch arrived here last night for the discussions. Officials said yesterday that discussions were being held to narrow down differences between the two countries on trade issues.

India and the US have so far held five rounds of Trade talks. The officials said today’s discussions were a precursor to the possible sixth round of trade negotiations between the two countries.

The Trade talks are significant following the announcement of 50 percent Tariff on Indian goods by the Trump administration.
