SRINAGAR, Sept 21 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said ensuring peace in Jammu and Kashmir was not his Government’s responsibility, stressing that those in charge must fulfill it.
Speaking to reporters soon after unveiling the Peace Jersey of Real Kashmir FC in collaboration with Danish sports brand Hummel at the TRC Ground in Srinagar, Omar said, “Thank God there is something we are not being blamed for. Ensuring peace is not the responsibility of my Government. The responsibility lies with those in charge, and they must fulfill it.”

The Chief Minister underlined that peace was essential for all sectors to flourish. “This program itself carries the message of peace. Whether it is tourism or a day-night match, nothing can succeed without a peaceful atmosphere. If the situation is not stable, who will come in the evening to play? We need peace for everything,” he said.
Omar said his Government was focused on developing sports infrastructure across the Union Territory. “There is hardly any Assembly segment left where we have not developed some form of sports infrastructure, be it cricket, volleyball, handball, football, gymnastics, or athletics,” he said, adding that day-night sports facilities were being planned at the district level, with efforts to expand gradually.

The Chief Minister announced that the second segment of the Kashmir Marathon would be held on November 2 and invited athletes from across India to participate. He praised Real Kashmir FC for promoting football in the Valley, calling sports a “bridge for unity and peace.”
For farmers hit by losses from highway closures and recent floods, Omar said assessments were underway and compensation would be provided. “The highway is now functioning properly, though 300 meters remain damaged and will be repaired soon to ensure smooth vehicular movement,” he said.
The Peace Jersey, inspired by Srinagar’s Hari Parbat Fort and featuring motifs of mountains and doves, will be available online from September 21. Its design, in sky-blue tones, symbolizes peace and unity.
