JAMMU, Sept 21: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) is a living beacon of sacrifice and bravery, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat said today while felicitating gallant personnel at a grand pipping-cum-felicitation ceremony held at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground, here.
The event, organised by Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu, was aimed at honouring police personnel, who displayed exemplary courage in counter-terrorism operations.
The ceremony recognized three categories of contributions-out-of-turn promotions for officers who showed extraordinary bravery in operations, induction of Special Police Officers (SPOs) into the regular force as Constables, and cash rewards for operational excellence.
A solemn tribute was also paid to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti delivered the welcome address, highlighting the proud legacy of J&K Police in combating terrorism and expressing gratitude to the DGP for his leadership.
The highlight of the day was the pipping of officers promoted out of turn for their valour in successful encounters across Kathua, Jammu, Rajouri, Udhampur and other districts.
Their field experiences stood as testimony to the indomitable spirit of the force.
The gathering paid homage to martyrs including HC Bashir Ahmed, HC Jaghbir Singh, SgCT Jaswant Singh, SgCT Tariq Hussain and SgCT Balvinder Singh.
Injured personnel were also honoured for their bravery under fire. Families of the martyrs were remembered with reverence, while the induction of SPOs as Constables was described as a proud moment that recognised their sacrifices and long service.
Hundreds of police personnel also received cash rewards for thwarting infiltration bids, neutralising terrorists, recovering arms and ammunition and ensuring civilian safety.
In his keynote address, DGP Nalin Prabhat congratulated the awardees and their families, hailing the J&K Police as “a living beacon of sacrifice and bravery.”
He said that stories of courage witnessed in recent operations are not just achievements but milestones in the proud journey of the force.
He urged personnel to continue upholding the motto of service and sacrifice.
DIG JKS Range Shiv Kumar Sharma proposed the vote of thanks, appreciating the leadership of senior officers and lauding the organisers.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem, a group photograph and an interactive tea session, marking a day of pride, inspiration and solidarity for the entire Police family.
