WASHINGTON, Sept 30: US entrepreneur Elon Musk’s private aerospace company SpaceX has said it will attempt the 11th test flight of a Starship prototype on the evening of October 13.
“The eleventh flight test of Starship is preparing to launch as soon as Monday, October 13. The launch window will open at 6:15 pm. A live webcast of the flight test will begin about 30 minutes before liftoff,” the statement read.
The test is primarily aimed at evaluating the vehicle’s heat shield and practicing descent and landing procedures for the upper stage for its subsequent return to the launch pad, SpaceX said.
For this flight, SpaceX will remove some heat?shield tiles to expose and inspect vulnerable areas, perform a new dynamic roll maneuver, and test subsonic guidance algorithms ahead of a planned splashdown in the Indian Ocean, the statement read. Another change from previous missions is that five Super Heavy engines – rather than three – will be used during the trajectory?correction phase, the company said. (UNI)
