Over 130 Palestine action supporters charged with terrorism in UK

LONDON, Oct 2: London police said that 134 supporters of the banned pro-Palestinian group, Palestine Action, have been charged with supporting a terrorist organisation.
Protests in support of Palestine Action began in July after the group was designated a terrorist organisation in the United Kingdom.
“A total of 20 more people have been notified of charges against them as officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command continue to investigate those arrested and suspected of showing support towards the proscribed group Palestine Action. This brings the total number of people charged with an offence of showing support to Palestine Action in London to 134,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement yesterday.
The charges are being brought under section 13 of the Terrorism Act, the statement read, adding that if convicted, the Palestine Action supporters face up to six months in prison.
Palestine Action was banned in the UK in July after activists broke into the country’s largest Royal Air Force (RAF) base, Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, damaged two Airbus Voyager refueling planes with a crowbar and sprayed red paint on their turbines. They said the action was motivated by the RAF’s support for Israel’s military operations, including reconnaissance flights over Gaza. (UNI)
