UDHAMPUR, Oct 2: Ranbir Singh Pathania, MLA Udhampur East, while addressing grievance redressal camps, pooh-poohed the visionless, unhappening, inconsequential NC-Congress regime in J & K for failing to rise to the occasion with regard to incessant flash floods/rains in J & K.
“With regard to the people rendered houseless, they are still to come out with a comprehensive formula. Except, media flip-flops, phot-shoots and baseless pointers on Bharat Sarkar, this Government is still to fulfil any of its election guarantees,” he said, while addressing the gatherings at CFC Battal in Majalta, Battal Balian in Udhampur and BJP headquarters.
He pointed out that out of nearly 10,000 affected houses, around 3,000 in Udhampur have been permanently and severely damaged, making them unfit for habitation. Despite the calamity striking more than a month ago, families are still being forced to live in unsafe and dilapidated structures, he said and highlighted the plight of displaced families at Channi Morh, where the relief camp at Yash Kripa Palace was disbanded, leaving people without proper shelter, water or basic amenities.
The MLA also referred to Sundla, where a massive landslide devastated habitations, rehabilitation is still awaited. He emphasized that it is the fundamental right of every citizen to have a decent shelter, urging that eligible families be immediately sanctioned PMAY houses and permanent relief under SDRF be disbursed without delay.
Pathania assured that he would provide an additional token grant from his CDF for relief measures. He further pressed for urgent restoration of essential utilities-water supply, electricity, roads, and connectivity.
On the developmental front, Pathania kick-started the construction of additional classrooms at Government High School Kakrai to be built at a cost of Rs 36 lakh. Prominent locals, including Retd SSP Sewa Singh Mankotia, former Sarpanch Om Parkash, Girdhari Lal Gupta, Kewal Singh (former Naib Sarpanch), along with a large number of residents, expressed gratitude to the MLA for addressing the core developmental needs of the area.
He also announced the construction of a road up to the house of Shaheed Rajinder Kumar at Battal, as a mark of respect.
