JAMMU, Oct 4: Col. Ranveer Singh Jamwal, one of India’s most decorated mountaineers and current Director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), has led a 38-member team to successfully summit two challenging peaks in Arunachal Pradesh – Mt. Gorichen Main (6488 meters) and Mt. Gorichen East (6222 meters).
Hailing from Badhori village in Samba district, Jammu, Col. Jamwal has once again demonstrated exceptional leadership and perseverance in the treacherous terrain of the Eastern Himalayas. This marks his third consecutive year leading expeditions in the Gorichen region. After successfully summiting Mt. Gorichen (6488m) in 2023 and the previously unclimbed Mt. Gorichen West (6383m) in 2024, his 2025 expedition adds to his legacy of daring mountaineering feats.
The expedition faced many challenges including dangerous rockfall zones, sub-zero temperatures, and high altitudes. Under Col. Jamwal’s guidance, the team showed remarkable courage and discipline to overcome these hurdles.
A three-time Everest summiteer and one of the few Indians to complete the prestigious Seven Summits challenge, Col. Jamwal has also led the iconic Har Shikhar Tiranga Mission, unfurling the national flag atop the highest peaks of all Indian states. His achievements continue to inspire youth across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those from rural backgrounds.
Through his leadership at NIMAS, Col. Jamwal is promoting Arunachal Pradesh as a rising hub for high-altitude mountaineering and adventure tourism. “Jammu has always given the country bravehearts. My roots keep me grounded and fuel my ambition,” said Col. Jamwal.
