RAJOURI, Oct 5: A hunger strike launched by locals of Rajouri town and members of World Human Rights Council members against Municipal Committee Rajouri (MCR) was suspended after 33 hours with the intervention of Additional Deputy Commissioner here today.
The hunger strike was launched by the World Human Rights Council Rajouri unit (NGO) members and locals on Saturday morning. On the assurance from Addl DC Rajouri in the afternoon, the hunger strike was suspended. The ADC offered a glass of juice to the president of the NGO to break his fast.
Earlier, a Medical team arrived at the site of dharna and examined the health of all the strikers. Doctors stated that their condition was currently stable, but a prolonged fast could have serious health consequences.
ADC was accompanied by SHO and Tehsildar Rajouri, besides some other officials.
BR Sharma, president of NGO said that the ADC has given assurance that all the demands raised during protest dharna with regard to proper lifting and disposal of garbage from the Rajouri will be addressed. After receiving his assurance, we have suspended our hunger strike. If our demands are not met on time, our hunger strike will resume, he added.
The other demand include- make all water sources pollution-free, ensure cleanliness throughout the town, make Rajouri plastic-free and ensure a safe and clean environment for future generations.
