JAMMU, Oct 5: To address the pressing issues concerning Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) Displaced Persons (DPs) a meeting of the PoJK Visthapit Sewa Samiti was convened here today.
The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming Samriti Saptah, scheduled to be observed from October 21 to October 27, 2025.
Presiding over the meeting, Dr Vikrant Sharma, Seh Prant Sanghchalak, J&K, emphasized the significance of Samriti Saptah in commemorating the struggles and sacrifices of PoJK displaced families.
He informed that a series of activities including seminars, Prabhat Pheris and publication of articles in newspapers would be organized at the district and tehsil levels, particularly in regions with a substantial PoJK displaced population.
Dr Deepak Kapoor, president of the Samiti, reiterated the key demands of the community, urging the government to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to PoJK displaced persons, release the pending ex-gratia relief of Rs 5.5 lakh to those settled outside Jammu and Kashmir and provide custodian land ownership rights to those residing in urban areas.
In a joint statement, the Samiti made a strong appeal to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, seeking adequate representation for the PoJK displaced community in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and within the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Among others who participated in the meeting included Arun Chowdhary, Pradeep Sharma, Ashok Khajuria, R C Gupta, R K Chibber, Dr Sanjogita Soodhan, Davinder Kumar, Preeti Chowdhary and Jagdev Singh.
