JAMMU, Oct 6: A one-day workshop on cyber crimes and cyber-security was today held at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, with an aim to enhance awareness and capacity among police personnel to combat the growing menace of cyber threats.
The workshop, which focused on various types of cyber crimes and preventive measures, witnessed active participation from around 200 police officers from the Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, including probationary Deputy SPs and SIs. Click here to watch video
The event was formally inaugurated by DIG JKS Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, in the presence of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh and other senior officers. The key guest speaker, Mohd Yaseen Kichloo, SSP at the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE), J&K, delivered an in-depth presentation on the evolving landscape of cyber threats.
In his address, SSP Kichloo elaborated on various forms of cyber crimes, including hacking, phishing, whisking, pharming, salami attacks, steganography, skimming, vishing, and email bombing. He emphasized the growing sophistication of online threats and highlighted practical preventive measures to ensure digital safety. He also shared insights from recent investigations, urging officers to remain vigilant and adopt secure digital practices.
The workshop aimed to train officers in recognizing and mitigating cyber risks such as online fraud, phishing scams, and misuse of social media. The interactive format encouraged participants to share experiences and pose relevant queries, fostering a better understanding of cybercrime prevention strategies.
The DIG, in his remarks, underlined the importance of community awareness, stating, “Awareness is our first line of defense. By educating citizens, we empower them to protect themselves and report suspicious activity.”
SSP Jammu reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting public safety through proactive education and collaboration between law enforcement and the community.
The workshop concluded with an engaging Q&A session, distribution of educational materials on cyber hygiene, and a vote of thanks by SP Headquarters Jammu, Irshad Hussain Rather.
