Patients at GMC Baramulla concerned over medicines shortage

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Patients at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla today raised concerns over the shortage of essential medicines at the hospital.
Locals said that despite GMC Baramulla being one of the largest hospitals in north Kashmir, even basic and life-saving drugs are often unavailable.
According to residents, medicines such as Injection Augmentin, Injection Pantop-D, and Injection PCM, among others, are currently out of stock.
“It is unfortunate that a major hospital like GMC Baramulla lacks essential injections and medicines. Poor patients are suffering badly,” a local resident said.
People have appealed to health authorities to take urgent measures to ensure the continuous availability of essential drugs and prevent further inconvenience to patients.
Meanwhile, GMC authorities clarified that the non-availability of Injection Pantoprazole at the Associated Hospital is due to the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL) being unable to supply the drug, despite timely requisitions and repeated reminders.
“To ensure immediate availability, an order for the drug has been placed with the supplier holding an annual rate contract with this hospital. It should be available within a day or two,” GMC Principal Dr. Majid Jehangir said.
