Search operation launched in Basantgarh

JAMMU, Oct 7: An encounter broke out between terrorists and a police party in Dhar Sakhri village in Kotranka area of Rajouri district while security forces have launched searches in Dharni Top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district after locals reported movement of three suspects late this evening.

Police sources said a joint search operation is underway following encounter in Dhar Sakhri village adjacent Beeranthub area of Kotranka in the border district of Rajouri.
“Exchange of fire took place between terrorists and the SOG (Special Operations Group) team in Beeranthub area, Police Station Kandi, Rajouri,” a post by the Jammu Police said.

Officials said there was no report of any casualty in the brief firing between the terrorists and the police party in Dheri Khatuni forest around 7.20 pm.
The firing took place when the SOG of local police launched a search operation after getting information about the movement of suspected persons.
The whole area has been put under a strict cordon, and a search operation is continuing, when the last reports were received.
Enforcement of Army, paramilitary forces, police and SOG has rushed to the spot to maintain cordon during the night and ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to escape during the night.
Senior officers have also reached to the spot. People in the surroundings have been asked to stay inside their houses till the area is cleared from the suspected terrorists.
Meanwhile, security forces also launched a cordon and search operation in Dharni top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district this evening.
The operation was launched after some locals reported movement of three suspected terrorists.
However, no contact has been established with the terrorists when the reports last came in.
Movement of the terrorists has been noticed in upper reaches and forest area of Basantgarh earlier also resulting into encounters. A top commander of the terrorists was killed in Basantgarh a couple of months back.
