Giving details of the case during a press conference organized today at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, SSP Jammu informed that on September 2, 2025, a complaint was received at the Cyber Police Station Jammu, wherein a victim reported being defrauded of Rs 4.44 crore by cybercriminals impersonating law enforcement officials. The fraudsters falsely alleged the victim’s involvement in money laundering using his Aadhaar and SIM details and, under the pretext of a “digital arrest,” coerced him into transferring money to multiple bank accounts.
Taking swift action, FIR Number 28/2025 under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000 was registered, and an investigation was immediately launched. The Cyber Police team analyzed the money trail, scrutinized bank transactions, mobile communications, and digital footprints, which revealed that the racket was being operated from Gujarat.
A special investigation team led by Inspectors Gagandeep Singh and Ajit Singh was deputed to Surat, where, in a well-coordinated operation, three accused were apprehended – Chauhan Manish Arunbhai, Ansh Rameshbhai Vithani and Kishorbhai Karamshibhai Diyoria. The accused were brought to Jammu for further questioning to identify other associates and trace additional financial links. The SSP further informed that so far, the Cyber Police have frozen Rs 55.88 lakh in various bank accounts linked to the accused, and Rs 6 lakh has already been refunded to the complainant.
A part challan in FIR Number 28/2025, registered under Section 66D of the IT Act with relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), was produced before the Court on October 6, 2025. Further investigation is continuing to trace other suspects and recover the remaining defrauded amount.
