RAJOURI, Oct 8: Local residents and members of various political and social organizations today held a strong protest in the Kheora area of Rajouri, demanding immediate repair and reconstruction of the dilapidated culvert that connects the main town with Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and has turn as `death trap’ for every one.
The protest, led by senior social worker- Mushtaq Bhatt, witnessed the participation of scores of residents, shopkeepers, and commuters who raised slogans against the concerned authorities for their alleged negligence and failure to address the long-pending issue.
Protesters expressed deep resentment over the narrow and damaged condition of the culvert, stating that it has caused several accidents and frequent traffic jams, especially during peak hours. They recalled that in September 2025, a vehicle got stuck on the culvert, resulting in hours-long traffic congestion.
They further said that ambulances carrying critically ill patients to GMC Rajouri often face dangerous delays due to the bottleneck. During the rainy season, the culvert fails to manage the heavy flow of water from the nearby drain, leading to severe water-logging that damages vehicles and floods nearby shops and houses.
The protesters accused the concerned authorities of ignoring repeated representations and complaints about the culvert’s poor condition. They have appealed to the MLA Rajouri and Deputy Commissioner Rajouri to intervene urgently and ensure the immediate reconstruction of the culvert to prevent further mishaps and inconvenience to the public.
