Srinagar, Oct 11: The Engineer Rashid -led Awami Itehad Party (AIP) today accused the National Conference Government of “complete surrender” and failing to deliver on key promises, including the restoration of Statehood and Article 370.
Addressing a press conference here, AIP chief spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi said the NC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were “equally responsible” for what he called the “disastrous situation” in J&K.
“PDP brought the BJP to J&K, while NC shared power with the Congress and BJP at different times – both have brought ruin to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Inam said.
The party also announced the candidature of former District Development Council (DDC) chairman Nazir Ahmad Khan for the upcoming Budgam by-election.
He alleged that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had “completely forgotten” the promises made to the people before the elections.
“Before polls, especially OmarAbdullah sahab and Farooq Abdullah , were very vocal about the restoration of Statehood and Article 370. They had promised that both issues would be addressed in the first Cabinet meeting and Assembly session. But when the resolution was brought, there was no mention of Article 370,” Inam said.
He accused the CM of failing to stand by his commitments, questioning the lack of a roadmap for the restoration of the Statehood.
The AIP spokesperson further criticised the Government for its “inaction” on the release of political prisoners and accused Abdullah of ignoring the issue despite repeatedly raising it during the Parliamentary and Assembly campaigns.
“He hasn’t even spoken about Engineer Rashid, who secured lakhs of votes. They fear Rashid because he enjoys the support of the people,” he alleged.
Inam said the ruling Government had also failed to deliver on several other commitments.
“They promised to address the reservation issue, create one lakh jobs, and ensure the dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits – but nothing has been done. The Government exists only for protocol,” he said.
He added that the promises of free gas and electricity units also remained unfulfilled. “In general, this Government is a complete failure – another name for failure itself,” Inam said.
