WASHINGTON, Oct 11: US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is fully backing a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending hostilities in Gaza.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump emphasized that the peace deal has garnered wide international support, including from countries directly involved in the region as well as global powers such as Iran and Russia.
“Most of the countries have passed all these resolutions. Every country is on board. Iran came in-I was very happy to see that. I was honored that Iran supported it,” Trump said. “Russia came in, President Putin. He supports it fully-very fully. So I was happy to see that even countries that weren’t necessarily involved in the process still supported it.”

Putin said that Trump’s initiative on a peace plan for the Gaza Strip was positively received in the Arab world. Russia almost immediately supported Trump’s initiative on Gaza, the Russian president added.
“We believe that the establishment of an independent Palestinian State is the main prerequisite for long-term stabilization and resolution of all issues related to this difficult problem,” Putin stated, adding that Russia was not only closely watching, but also trying to contribute to the settlement of the current situation.
Speaking to the press on Friday following his visit to Dushanbe, Putin praised Trump’s efforts to address longstanding global conflicts. “If we succeed in completing everything that Donald aspired to-everything he talked about and is trying to do-it will be a historic event,” the Russian leader said.
On Wednesday, Trump stated that Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas had signed the first phase of the Gaza peace deal, agreeing that Hamas would release all hostages and Israel would withdraw its troops to an agreed line.
On Thursday, a US official confirmed to RIA Novosti that the United States would deploy 200 troops to the Middle East to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
