RAMKOTE, Oct 14: Government Degree College (GDC) Ramkote organized its maiden alumni meet (Malati-1) clubbed with maiden Diksharambh for newly inducted Semester 1st students and maiden investiture ceremony (selection of college presidium/student council), here today.
Satish Sharma, MLA Billawar was chief guest on the occasion. Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul, Principal of the college, presented an overall report of the college academics, sports, infrastructure and activities done in the college from time to time.
The series of events that followed, were Dogri folk dance by semester 5th girls, solo song by Karan Singh of semester 1st and bhajan singing performance of Tania Devi of semester 3rd.
Anu Devi was selected as president of the Alumni Association. The college presidium was announced and Minakshi Devi from semester 5th was declared the President of Students Council. The torch was lit by the chief guest and handed over to the college president. The whole presidium took a circled walk through the campus taking the responsibility of the role assigned. Karan Singh and Bhawani Gupta from semester 1st were declared as the winners of the titles of Mr and Ms Fresher. They were selected on the basis of their introduction, personality, question and answers and performance of an activity. Kajal Devi from semester 3rd performed a Pahari dance folk dance followed by a Gidda performance by semester 3rd students.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Satish Sharma assured that the pending college building work will be initiated soon for the overall growth and development of the college. He also appreciated the efforts of the college to groom the personalities of the students belonging to rural settings. He exhorted to all students to follow the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and rise in their respective career pathways.
The event culminated with a formal vote of thanks by Latasha Sharma of semester 5th. The programme was organized by faculty members Including Prof Pankaj Nandan, IQAC Convener; Prof Suresh Chander, Convener Cultural Committee; Prof Anu Sharma, NSS PO; Prof Vasundra Raje, Sheraj Ahmed Sofi, Sheraj Ahmed Hajam, Sheikh Aabid Azad, Sushil Singh, Krishan Singh and Ankush Kundral.
