JAMMU, Oct 22: In a heartening development for the sporting community of Jammu & Kashmir, outstanding sportspersons met Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and Sports Minister Satish Sharma to discuss the long-pending issue of appointments under SRO-12.
According to a statement issued by the sportspersons, both leaders extended festive greetings during the cordial meeting and acknowledged the remarkable achievements of J&K athletes at national and international levels. They assured the delegation that the issue of SRO-12 appointments-pending for nearly 12 years-would be addressed in the coming days.
The Deputy Chief Minister confirmed that the matter would be taken up during the upcoming Assembly Session starting October 23. “The Government is committed to doing justice to our sportspersons who have brought immense pride to the Union Territory,” he stated.
The Sports Minister added that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has taken personal interest in resolving the issue and has directed concerned departments to expedite the process. His intervention has sparked renewed hope among athletes across the region.
This long-awaited step is expected to finally pave the way for the implementation of SRO-12, enabling appointments of deserving sportspersons based on their achievements.
