AIIMS Jammu hosts National CME program on cervical cancer

JAMMU, Oct 25: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, AIIMS Jammu, in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Indian Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ISCCP), FOGSI Oncology Committee, Jammu Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (JOGS) and NIGF, organized the Mid-Term ISCCP CME. The event drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, postgraduate students, and gynecologists from across the region.
The CME was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Jammu. In his address, Prof Gupta emphasized the importance of early screening, HPV vaccination, and community-level awareness to reduce the cervical cancer burden in India. He also highlighted the availability of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) at AIIMS Jammu for personalized management of various malignancies.
The event featured eminent national faculty, including Dr Aruna Nigam, Dr Vijay Zutshi, Dr Saritha Shamsunder and Dr Nidhi Gupta, who delivered comprehensive lectures on screening protocols, colposcopy principles, and management of pre-invasive cervical lesions.
The scientific sessions covered key aspects such as screening strategies, optics and tissue basis of colposcopy, Swede Scoring nomenclature, management of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), the role of HPV vaccination, and recent innovations in the field.
Hands-on training sessions on video and binocular colposcopy, thermal ablation and LEEP techniques provided participants with practical exposure under expert supervision.
Prof (Dr) Meeta Gupta, Dean Academics and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, along with her dedicated team, played a pivotal role in organizing the CME. Their efforts ensured seamless coordination of scientific sessions, faculty participation, and hands-on training, making the programme a resounding success.
The programme concluded with a panel discussion on clinical case scenarios and management algorithms, followed by a vote of thanks. The CME highlighted AIIMS Jammu’s dedication to advancing women’s health and promoting preventive oncology in the region through education, collaboration, and evidence-based practice.
