KARGIL, Oct 29 : Following directives from the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF), UT Ladakh, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) conducted an important inspection on October 26, 2025, of the remote Talma Brook area.
The Talma Brook area is crucial for its natural cover of Juniper, locally known as Shukpa.
The primary objective was to review ongoing conservation efforts, specifically the chain-link fencing measures executed under the Special Development Programme (SDP).
While reviewing the site, officials observed that certain stretches were showing signs of anthropogenic pressure (human-caused interference).
To address the conservation challenges, the DFO held discussions with the Lambardar and local residents. They jointly proposed forming a Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC).
This committee is intended to formalize and significantly enhance community participation in the long-term protection and natural regeneration of the vital Juniper forests.
The included field staff and the Lambardar (local head) of Yokma Kharbu village, undertook a challenging 8-kilometer trek to reach the ecologically significant site.
