Katra, Oct 30: The School of Mathematics at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, organized an invited talk on “Scientific Computing” under the PM-USHA Scheme.
The session was delivered by Prof. Jitendra Kumar from Department of Mathematics, IIT Ropar, who provided insightful perspectives on various types of computational errors, their propagation, and cumulative impact. He elaborated on the concept of conditioning and its crucial role in ensuring numerical stability, illustrating how small changes in input can lead to significant variations in output.
Prof. Kumar also interacted with B.Tech. Mathematics and Computing students, discussing internship and placement opportunities in the field. The talk witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members across departments, research scholars, and students.
Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate Professor and Head, School of Mathematics, welcomed the speaker and introduced the theme of the talk, while Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
