3 injured in bear attack

UDHAMPUR, Oct 30: Three persons were mauled by a wild bear at village Meer and Upper Meer in Panchari, here today.
According to the reports, the bear attacked the villagers when they were grazing their domestic animals in a nearby forest area resulting into grevious injuries to the victims.
The injured were identified as Baldev Singh (35), son of Prem Nath, resident of Upper Meer, Koshilya Devi (68), wife of Dharam Singh of Upper Meer and Pawan Singh (23), son of Jagdev Singh of Meer.
Local villagers took the injured persons to PHC Panchari where doctors referred them to District Hospital Udhampur.
The incident triggered a panic in the area and local villagers protested against the alleged failuire of Wildlife Department to catch the beast, They said that there were repeated incidents of bear or leopard attacks in the area in the last two months but the concerned department and district administration have failed to catch the wild beasts.
