JAMMU, Oct 30: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today carried out a major anti-encroachment and eviction drive at Narwal Bypass near Wave Mall, removing several illegal structures and hutments that had come up over the years on the Government land.
The operation, conducted under the supervision of the Joint Commissioner (Revenue & Enforcement), JMC, Subah Mehta, was led on the ground by the concerned Enforcement Officer, with assistance from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The teams used men and machinery to demolish a number of unauthorized hutments and other temporary structures that had encroached upon a nallah in the area.
Officials said these illegal encroachments were obstructing the natural flow of the drain, leading to repeated water-logging and unhygienic conditions.
“The drive was aimed at restoring the nallah to its original width and alignment, safeguarding public health, and improving the city’s sanitation network,” they said.
During the drive, several occupants, reportedly staying in the area for the past three decades, protested the demolition, alleging that they were asked to vacate without prior notice.
Police intervened to maintain order and ensure smooth execution of the operation.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the JMC Commissioner, Dr Devansh Yadav emphasized that encroachments on public land and drains violate municipal laws and hinder urban development efforts.
He reiterated JMC’s commitment to keeping Jammu clean, safe, and well-organized, and appealed to the public to avoid encroaching upon Government land or footpaths.
The JMC has been conducting similar drives across different parts of the city to reclaim public spaces and prevent unauthorized constructions as part of its ongoing enforcement campaign.
