J&K has 2,960 gazetted, 14,993 non-gazetted vacancies in 32 deptts

465 posts referred to JKPSC, 3,795 to JKSSB

JAMMU, Oct 30: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has 2, 960 gazetted and 14, 993 non-gazetted cadre vacancies under the direct quota in 32 different departments.
This information was tabled in the Legislative Assembly today in reply to an unstarred question of PDP legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the Minister Incharge of the General Administration Department (GAD).
“The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has 2,960 gazetted and 14,993 non-gazetted cadre vacancies under the direct quota. To fill these vacant positions, 465 posts in eight departments have been referred to the JKPSC and 3,795 posts in 20 departments have been referred to the JKSSB in the last one year,” the Chief Minister told the Legislative Assembly.

As far as the department-wise details shared by the Chief Minister, the Health and Medical Education Department has the highest number of 7,285 vacant posts-1,985 gazetted and 5, 300 non-gazetted-followed by 1,561 vacancies-104 gazetted and 1,457 non-gazetted-in the Finance Department.
The Power Development Department has 1,497 vacant positions, with 61 gazetted and 1436 non-gazetted positions and the Industries and Commerce Department has 1,175 vacancies, with 45 gazetted and 1130 non-gazetted.
The Public Works (R&B) Department and Jal Shakti Departments have 1, 099 and 987 non-gazetted vacancies with no gazetted position vacant.
The Agriculture Production Department has 4 gazetted and 322 non-gazetted vacancies and the ARI Department has one gazetted and 158 non-gazetted cadre vacancies.
Similarly, the Civil Aviation Department has one gazetted and 6 non-gazetted cadre vacant positions and the Cooperatives Department has 26 gazetted and 87 non-gazetted vacancies.
While Culture Department has 100 non-gazetted vacancies, the Election and Estate Departments have 69 and 19 non-vacant positions.
The Floriculture Department has two gazetted and 11 non-gazetted vacancies, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has 378 non-vacant positions, and Forest Department has 130 non-vacant positions.
While the General Administration Department has 105 gazetted and 167 non-gazetted vacancies, the Higher Education Department has 475 gazetted and 214 non-gazetted cadre vacant positions, and the Hospitality and Protocol Department has 18 non-gazetted vacancies.
Similarly, the Information Technology Department has 14 gazetted and 128 non-gazetted vacancies, and the Labour and Employment Department has 40 non-gazetted cadre unfilled positions.
The Law Department has 3 gazetted and 21 non-gazetted cadre vacancies, the Mining Department has 2 gazetted and 91 non-gazetted vacant positions, and the PD&MD has 119 gazetted and 131 non-gazetted cadre vacancies.
Likewise, the Rural Development Department has 109 non-gazetted vacancies, the S&T Department has 2 gazetted and 12 non-gazetted vacancies, and the School Education Department has 727 non-gazetted cadre vacant positions.
While the Skill Development Department has 4 gazetted and 48 non-gazetted vacancies, the Social Welfare, Tourism, and Transport Departments have 181, 31, and 198 non-gazetted cadre vacancies, and the Youth Services & Sports Department has 7 gazetted and 88 non-gazetted cadre vacant positions.
Replying the PDP legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra’s another question about the total vacancies referred to different recruitment agencies in the last one year, the Chief Minister replied that 465 posts in eight departments have been referred to the JKPSC and the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board has received 3,795 posts in 20 departments from September 2024 to September 2025.
