NCURDS organises webinar on Mucormycosis

JAMMU: To raise awareness raise awareness regarding Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) among students, teachers and common masses, National Council for Urban and Rural Development Society, Jammu and Govt. Degree College Chatroo, in association with Vigyan Prasar, Noida an autonomous body of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India Noida, organized a webinar entitled, Fungus overriding the Virus on the topic Black fungus (Mucormycosis) post Covid pandemic in India.
The webinar was presided over by Dr. Nakul Prashar, Director Vigyan Prasar, Noida and among others was attended by Dr. Bharat Bhushan and Dr. B.K. Tyagi of Vigyan Prasar.
Earlier, in his welcome address Dr. Ashaq Hussain of Govt. Degree College Chatroo added that COVID-19 potentially weaken the body’s immune response which leads to increased vulnerability to other infections, especially for people who are immune compromised and particular concern in this regard is an infection called Mucormycosis, commonly referred to as black fungus. Dr. Nakul Prashar, Director Vigyan Prasar in his opening remarks threw a light on ‘Challenge in dealing Mucormycosis’ and underlined the role played by webinars in dissemination of knowledge during the pandemic.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Scientist Vigyan Prasar, in his address added that Mucormycosis is a rare but potentially fatal fungal infection. The Government of India has declared Mucormycosis as an Epidemic and a notifiable disease.
Hence, it is of outmost importance to spread awareness about Mucormycosis, This webinar is an initiative in this regard.
Later being the Key note speaker of the Webinar, Dr. B. K. Tyagi, Scientist- F of Vigyan Prasar discussed in detail the post covid complications and spoke at length on Mucormycosis, its signs and symptoms, and preventive measures. He also discussed the treatment strategies of the disease.
Dr. Tyagi also explained why Mucormycosis spreads during Covid-19 treatment. He described the factors that lead to the incidence of Mucormycosis, and the mechanism by which the fungus could invade the body.
Later Zaffurallh Khan, founder Secretary NCURDS, while highlighting the achievements of NCURDS described the association of organization with Vigyan prasar as boon in taking science popularization and other awareness programs at gross root level.
