Iran plans to hold meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbors with Russia’s participation

TEHRAN, Nov 17: Iran plans to organize a meeting in mid-December on the Afghan issue in light of tensions between Kabul and Islamabad with the participation of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, as well as Russia, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh told Sputnik.
“We are currently working on establishing a contact group on Afghanistan, which will include all of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries plus a number of other countries, including Russia and China. The agenda also includes very important regional issues, such as how to help Afghanistan and maintain stability using regional mechanisms,” Khatibzadeh said, adding that “the meeting will take place in a month.”
Iran has taken a number of “effective steps” in recent days regarding Afghanistan and Pakistan, the deputy foreign minister added. (UNI)
