Docs’ lockers checked in Kashmir hospitals

Srinagar, Nov 19: After busting white collar terror module in which several doctors were arrested, police and hospital administration today checked the lockers of doctors in several hospital across Kashmir.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, said that in light of the recent blast incident in Delhi and as part of heightened preventive security measures across the region, Police in coordination with the hospital administration conducted a thorough inspection of staff/ doctors lockers at District Hospital Shopian and Community Health Centre Zainapora.

“The special drive was aimed at identifying unclaimed, unattended or unidentified lockers within the hospital premises to ensure that no space or facility is left vulnerable to misuse under the prevailing security situation,” he said.
The SSP said that during the inspection, all lockers were checked and verified. “Lockers found unclaimed, improperly labelled or without valid ownership were documented for necessary follow-up action,” he said.
He said that the hospital authorities have been directed to update and maintain a proper record of all allotted lockers and ensure strict adherence to identification protocols. “The aim is to strengthen institutional safety, enhance vigilance and eliminate any possibility of exploitation of public facilities by anti-national elements,” he added.
In the meantime, a police spokesman said that in line with ongoing efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper utilization of hospital infrastructure, Police along with medical officers of health department conducted checking of lockers used by doctors and staff in various health institutions across the district Kulgam.
In Budgam, the spokesman said that to ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and to prevent any misuse of regulated materials, carried out an inspection drive of shops dealing with chemicals, fertilisers and hardware.
“Surprise checks were carried out by teams from Police Stations and Police Posts under the supervision of senior officers. The inspections focused on verifying stock records, sale registers, licenses, storage conditions and overall adherence to safety protocols to curb any illegal diversion or misuse of regulated materials”.
The spokesman said that Police affirmed that such inspection drives will continue to ensure accountability, promote lawful trade practices, and safeguard the community. “Shopkeepers have been advised to maintain proper records and extend full cooperation during inspections.”
