JAMMU, Nov 19: The CID (Counter Intelligence) Jammu today carried out extensive raids in high-security Kot Bhalwal and Poonch jails housing Pakistani and Kashmiri terrorists to thwart any possibility of terror and radicalization plots being hatched from inside the prisons. Searches come close on the heels of white-collar terror module having roots in Kashmir busted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

During past over one week, multiple agencies including police, SOG, CID (CI) and other agencies have carried out raids in various districts including the jails to ensure that the terrorists lodged there are not able to hatch any kind of plot including radicalization of youth. The raids will continue based on specific inputs as and when received.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Pakistani and Kashmiri terrorists are mostly lodged in Kot Bhalwal and Poonch jails in the Jammu region and surprise early morning raids were conducted by the CID (CI) Jammu sleuths there today. The terrorists and their barracks were frisked extensively.
“Directions have been issued by the authorities to segregate Pakistani and Kashmiri terrorists. The jail authorities have also been asked to ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to interact with the criminals as there have been reports that they could attempt to radicalize the criminals to lure them into terrorism from inside the jails,” the sources said.
Noting that the jails had earlier been misused by the terrorists, both Pakistanis and Kashmiris, sources, however, said the situation has now undergone sea change in view of series of measures taken by the jail authorities who have ensured that no modes of communication finds their way inside the jails.
Also, the focus remained on segregation of the terrorists and avoid their contact with other prisoners. While terrorists and criminals have already been separated inside the jails, it is also being ensured that they don’t interact during the day.
The dreaded Pakistani and Kashmiri terrorists are mostly lodged in high-security Kot Bhalwal jail while some of the terrorists have also been kept in the District Jail Poonch. The terrorists have been confined to particular jails with a view to keep strict surveillance on their activities, the sources said.
During past over one week, multiple security agencies including Jammu and Kashmir Police, CID (CI) Jammu, SOG etc carried out searches targeting over ground network of the terrorists in Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Ramban and Doda districts and detained number of persons for questioning to ascertain their links with those sitting across the border. In addition, district jails were also subjected to searches.
The operations were carried out in a well-coordinated manner and were aimed at tracing out the suspicious activities of the relatives of those operating from Pakistan and PoJK and verifying antecedents of suspected individuals, and tightening security around vulnerable areas.
During the operations, houses of relatives and known associates of active J-K-based terrorists operating from Pakistan and OGWs were put under search.
The police teams thoroughly inspected multiple premises to ensure no anti-national or unlawful activities were being carried out or supported.
Cops also carried out the inspections of SIM vendor outlets in their respective jurisdictions as part of this coordinated region-wide exercise.
During the drive, vendors were directed to maintain complete records of all issued SIM cards, strictly follow KYC (Know Your Customer) guidelines, and refrain from selling fake or pre-activated SIM cards.
The inspections also emphasized the importance of keeping detailed records related to recharges, duplicate SIM issuance, and logs for lost or damaged SIM cards, along with the corresponding customer details.
