BJP criticises PDP’s ‘objections’ to anti-terror ops

Srinagar, Nov 22: Bharatiya Janata Party today criticized PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter Iltija Mufti for their “persistent objections” to anti-terror operations carried out by security agencies in J&K.
Addressing a press conference here, party Spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the pattern had become “too obvious to ignore.”
He alleged that whenever law-enforcement agencies initiate action against the Kashmir Times newspaper over its “controversial activities in the past,” the Mufti family emerges as its “most vocal defender.”
“It is strange and raises serious doubts,” Thakur said.
“Why do Mehbooba Mufti and Iltija immediately jump in to support Kashmir Times? What is their interest? Is there some old association or influence that keeps bringing them into the picture every time?”
He said agencies must thoroughly examine all possible angles, including any questionable affiliations, instead of allowing political “noise and drama” to derail actions aimed at dismantling networks that once “glorified separatism and terrorism.”
Thakur said the PDP’s consistent opposition to counter-terror operations has become a “disturbing trend.”
“Whenever decisive action is taken to end the narrative that encourages terrorism, the PDP starts shouting from rooftops,” he remarked.
“This raises a genuine concern: why does the PDP become uncomfortable when terror networks and their propaganda machinery are dismantled?”
The BJP spokesperson asserted that a clear distinction exists between those who work for India’s peace and those who “still speak the language of appeasement and confusion.”
“The people of J&K have suffered enough. The days of shielding elements that misled youth and strengthened separatist thinking are long gone,” he said.
Thakur urged the PDP leadership to introspect and clarify “whether their loyalty lies with the national interest or with groups that thrived on unrest and instability.”
“The Muftis must answer these questions -he added.
