BAPIO honours Dr Mukesh Chugh of Jammu for Outstanding Contribution

LONDON, Dec 1: Son of the soil Dr Mukesh Chugh, Consultant Anaesthetist, was conferred the UK National Award for Outstanding Contributions to Equality and Diversity.
He was conferred this award during the three-day Annual Conference by British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) from 28th to 30th November in London, celebrating excellence, leadership, and innovation across the UK’s medical community.
This distinguished award recognises individuals who have demonstrated remarkable leadership, unwavering advocacy, and meaningful impact in promoting fairness, inclusion, and equal opportunity within the healthcare system.
The conference saw participation from senior representatives of multiple Royal Colleges, leading clinicians from diverse specialties, the British Medical Association (BMA), and the General Medical Council (GMC), underscoring BAPIO’s central role in shaping national healthcare discourse.
Dr Chugh hails from Jammu, where he completed his medical degree at Government Medical College, Jammu. He subsequently served in renowned institutions including CMC Ludhiana and AIIMS, New Delhi, before moving to the United Kingdom, where he now works as a Consultant Anaesthetist.
His contributions to equality and diversity have previously earned him commendations at 10 Downing Street and Westminster, London, marking a continued trajectory of national recognition.
Reflecting on the honour, Dr Chugh said: “This award holds special significance for me because it comes from an organisation that has championed equality and diversity for many, many years. It means more than I can express.”
The annual conference once again highlighted BAPIO’s vital role in advocating for fairness, professional development, and high-quality patient care across the UK.
