RAMBAN, Dec 2: The newly formed Ramban unit of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti here today organised a protest rally against the alleged discrimination in admission process for MBBS seats at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Medical College, Katra.
The protest rally was led by Sangharsh Samiti district president, Surinder Singh and a large number of Samiti members gathered at Dak Bungalow, Ramban from where they marched through the old town.
The protesters raised slogans against Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and the management of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University.
The protesters carried banners and placards alleging irregularities in allocation of MBBS seats.
They argued that the medical college established by the Shrine Board using donations from Hindu pilgrims should ensure adequate representation of Hindu students.
It is pertinent to mention here that 42 Muslim, one Sikh, and seven Hindu candidates were selected against 50 available MBBS seats for the 2025-26 session at SMVD Medical College, Katra through NEET.
Addressing the gathering, Surinder Singh claimed that deserving aspirants from the Hindu community were overlooked.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and the Central Government to intervene.
The rally concluded peacefully at T-Chowk.
