Delay in Class 11 provisional admissions sparks concern

SRINAGAR, Dec 3: Provisional admissions to Class 11 at SP Higher Secondary School and Kothi Bagh Higher Secondary School Srinagar have been delayed, prompting concern among students who say they have not been given a clear reason for the move.
Students told Daily Excelsior that both institutions have asked applicants to wait till March, when Class 10 results are declared, before the admission process can begin. They say the delay is unprecedented, arguing that most schools across the Valley are already accepting provisional admissions.
Several students said they approached the Directorate of School Education seeking clarity but returned dissatisfied. “They noted down our names but said it won’t count as provisional admission. I don’t understand how this department functions,” another student said.
Students also fear losing preferred subject combinations if the process is pushed to March, saying the uncertainty is preventing them from planning their studies. “Once provisional admissions are confirmed, we are sure which subjects to opt for and what to study. Right now, we are undecided,” a student said.
They argued that the delay contradicts the intent of the new education policy, which aims to reduce academic stress. “We cannot afford to waste two months waiting for admission. The administration should intervene immediately to ease our stress,” another student, said.
When contacted, the Director of Education in Kashmir, Naseer Ahmad, did not respond to the calls and messages.
