Six J&K fencers selected for National Coaching camp at NCE Aurangabad

JAMMU, Dec 3: The Jammu & Kashmir Fencing Association (JKFA) announced a historic milestone as six talented fencers from J&K have qualified for the National Coaching Camp organized by the Sports Authority of India and the Fencing Association of India at the National Centre of Excellence, Aurangabad. The camp, sanctioned from December 1 to 31, will prepare athletes for the upcoming Asian Games and other international competitions.
As per handout issued the fencers were selected based on their outstanding performances at the Senior National Fencing Championship (Men & Women) in New Delhi, where the J&K team finished second overall, just behind SSCB. The selected athletes are Vishal Thapar (Men Sabre), Shreya Gupta (Women Sabre), Harshit Kohli (Men Sabre), Sufyan Waheed Sohil (Men Epee), Shivaansh Kapoor (Men Epee) and Ajay Kumar (Men Epee).
“We are immensely proud of these fencers who have worked tirelessly to reach this stage,” said Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of J&K Sports Council as per handout issued by JKFA. President (JKFA) Vijay Kumar, Secretary General Adv. Supriya Chouhan and International Referee Rashid Ahmed Choudhary congratulated the athletes, calling their achievement a source of inspiration for aspiring fencers.
Former national and international fencers, including Maninder Pal Singh, Adarsh Salathia, Ujjwal Gupta, Lucky Singh, Javed Ahmed, Mohd Tariq, Abdul Rafiq, Ankush Gupta, Ajay Khartol, Anthony Mattoo and Pritam Slathia, also extended their best wishes.
