NEW DELHI, Dec 4: Member of Parliament from Jammu -Reasi Lok Sabha constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma raised the demand for granting of National Highway status to the vital road stretch connecting Samba to Udhampur.
The demand was raised by him during the question hour in Lok Sabha today. Urging the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), he stressed the urgent need for upgrading and widening the road to a four-lane corridor.
Jugal Kishore Sharma highlighted that the Samba-Mansar-Udhampur road is a major inter-district link that carries heavy daily traffic, making it an essential route for commuters, business activities, and emergency movement between the two districts. He emphasized that the current condition and capacity of the road are inadequate to handle the increasing traffic load.
“The road from Samba to Udhampur passing through Mansar is a lifeline for the region. Due to pitiable condition of road major accidents are taking place leading to loss of life and property. Considering its importance and heavy traffic, it must be declared as a National Highway and its widening work to four lanes should be started at the earliest,” the MP asserted while raising the issue in the House.
He urged the Ministry to take immediate action to approve the National Highway proposal, initiate necessary surveys, and expedite the commencement of its widening construction work upto four lane.
