JAMMU, Dec 17: The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS), Jammu & Kashmir, under the leadership of Provincial President Tarun Gupta convened an important meeting here today.
The meeting focused on pressing service-related issues confronting Government employees in the Union Territory, with special emphasis on the long-pending demand for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
Addressing the gathering, NMOPS leaders urged employees to participate in large numbers in the upcoming Pension Conference scheduled for January 12 in Jammu, describing it as a decisive milestone in the continuing struggle for pension justice and social security.
The meeting witnessed the participation of senior NMOPS functionaries, including State President Mohammed Ashraf Sheikh, State Secretary Sandeep Bhat, State Media Secretary Vikee Pandita, and Co-Convenor Kashmir Rachit Kachroo.
Employee representatives from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir were also present, reflecting growing unity and organizational strength.
State President Mohammed Ashraf Sheikh voiced grave concern over the financial insecurity faced by employees under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
He stated that the contributory and market-linked pension system has failed to guarantee post-retirement stability and exposes employees to significant risks.
He emphasized that OPS remains the only dependable mechanism to ensure dignity, social security, and justice for retired employees, and called upon the Government to restore it without further delay.
Provincial President Jammu, Tarun Gupta, reaffirmed NMOPS’s commitment to a peaceful, democratic, and constitutional movement.
He briefed members on ongoing engagements with administrative and political authorities and stressed the need for unity, discipline, and mass mobilization to achieve the common objective.
He appealed to employees to make the Pension Conference a resounding success.
State Secretary Sandeep Bhat highlighted the importance of strengthening NMOPS at district, tehsil, and block levels, while State Media Secretary Vikee Pandita underlined the role of media and digital platforms in amplifying employee concerns.
Co-Convenor Kashmir, Rachit Kachroo, stressed enhanced coordination between Jammu and Kashmir regions to present a strong and unified case before the Government.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a unanimous resolution to intensify the movement for OPS restoration, urging the government to initiate meaningful, time-bound dialogue in the interest of employee welfare and social justice.
