The workshop was conducted with the support of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan (BYS), an organisation guided by the principle “Live and Let Live – Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinam.”
The resource persons from BYS, Jia Lal Sharma, Shakti Kumar and Anupama Puri, shared valuable insights on holistic well-being.
The Secretary of BYS, Jia Lal Sharma, elaborated on the concept of yoga and emphasised its significance in maintaining physical, mental and emotional health, particularly in a demanding work environment.
The sessions covered the fundamental aspects of yoga, including Yog and Yama (ethical discipline), Niyama (self-discipline), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (enlightenment), guiding participants from external practices to inner awareness and balance.
The concept of chakras, the seven primary energy centres along the spine that act as wheels (chakra meaning “wheel”) for the flow of life force (prana), was also discussed.
Chanting of OM, followed by meditation, created a calm and positive atmosphere, significantly enhancing the overall impact of the workshop.
Participants expressed happiness and satisfaction, noting that the sessions helped them feel relaxed, refreshed and more focused.
The workshop also contributed towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
SMVDU continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to the well-being of its employees by organising such health-oriented programmes under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Pragati Kumar.
The initiative was widely appreciated by the participants and reaffirmed the University’s dedication to fostering a healthy, supportive and positive work culture.
