SRINAGAR, Dec 22: Overnight snowfall was reported from the hills of Kashmir bringing down the day temperature while there was improvement in the night temperatures giving people of the region relief from intense cold weather conditions.

Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Pir Ki Gali received snowfall during the night with five and 18 inches snow accumulation reported from the hills across the region.
The wet weather for the last two days led to improvement in night temperatures giving respite to the people of the region from intense cold weather conditions.
Srinagar registered a minimum of 4.0 degree Celsius, Qazigund 4.0 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 2.2 degree Celsius, Kokernag 3.0 degree Celsius, Kupwara 2.0 degree Celsius and Gulmarg recorded minus 2.4 degree Celsius.

The day temperatures in Srinagar, Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kupwara, Kokernag and Gulmarg settled at 9.5 degree Celsius, 11.2 degree Celsius, 8.0 degree Celsius, 4.6 degree Celsius, 10.5 degree Celsius and 1.2 degree Celsius respectively.
The Meteorological Department has forecast further precipitation during the next 12 hours till Monday night. From December 23 onwards, the weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain partly cloudy until December 29.
It has forecast the possibility of light rain or snowfall over higher reaches at isolated places from December 30 to January 1, while January 2 and 3 are likely to be partly cloudy.
It advised travellers and transporters to follow traffic and administrative advisories. Moderate to dense fog is expected to persist over the plains of Jammu division during the next seven days.
Meanwhile, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road and Mughal Road were closed for vehicular movement due to snow accumulation, while security forces convoy movement was allowed after clearance from traffic authorities.
The Gurez-Bandipora road was also closed following snowfall even as the administration initiated snow clearance operations.
Two flights were cancelled at Srinagar Airport today due to operational reasons.
According to airport authorities, one flight each operated by different airlines on the Srinagar-Delhi and Srinagar-Kolkata sectors was cancelled as part of a planned operational adjustment.
Airport officials expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers and said normal operations would resume as per schedule, subject to weather and operational conditions.
