RAMBAN, Dec 26: A young Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) prosecutor, who was critically injured in a road accident near Banihal yesterday afternoon, died at SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, this morning.

Officials said the accident took place around 3 PM near the Railway crossing at Banihal, when an Alto K-10 car (JK-03N-4273), driven by Advocate Sheikh Adil Nabi of Bijbehara, Anantnag, was hit by a Scorpio vehicle (JK-01BB-2625).
“He sustained critical injuries in the collision and was first taken to Sub-District Hospital Banihal. He was later referred to GMC Anantnag and then shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries,” they said.
According to officials, Sheikh Adil Nabi, about 35 years old, had recently cleared the UPSC examination and was appointed as a Public Prosecutor with the CBI in Chandigarh.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban, Arun Gupta, said the vehicle involved in the accident has been seized and the accused driver, identified as Mohammad Shafi of Nadirgund Peerbagh, Tehsil Chanpora, Srinagar, has been arrested.
He said an FIR number 139/2025 has been registered at Police Station Banihal under sections 281 and 125A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation has been set into motion.
The untimely death of the young prosecutor has been widely mourned by members of the legal fraternity, colleagues, and people from his native area.
