SRINAGAR, Dec 26: An ancient stone sculpture, identified as Goddess Durga, has been recovered from the river Jhelum in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said the sculpture was found on December 25 by a fisherman, Nazir Ahmad Latoo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Latoo and a resident of Shaltang/Zogyar, while he was fishing in the river.
He promptly reported the matter to Police Station Sheeri, Baramulla, following which the sculpture was taken into safe custody by the police.
According to officials, the sculpture was subsequently handed over to the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K, after completing due formalities.
